Today on this episode of Outside the Mix, we are honored to welcome a special guest all the way from Niger. She is a talented singer-songwriter who lights up any room she enters. I present to you Fadi.
Fadi had a fascinating upbringing. Although she is originally from Niger, I was surprised to learn that she was born in Abuja, Nigeria. Fadi shared, "I feel like my experiences, my background, and my culture really influenced the way I make music and portray myself." At the age of 13, Fadi and her family moved to the US. She spoke about her initial experiences in America, noting the culture shock she felt. The contrast between how America is portrayed on television and the reality of living here was eye-opening for her.
Fadi's music draws from many different genres. When asked about her musical influences growing up, she mentioned listening to Coupe-Decale, Afrobeats, Ethiopian music, and even music from China.
In December 2019, Fadi released her first single, "Slow Down," inspired by Wizkid's and R2bees' song "Slow Down". Initially, she didn't intend to become an artist; she started by making song covers. However, due to pressure from her fans to release her own music, she decided to give the people what they wanted. The song went number one in her country, giving Fadi the confidence to continue releasing more hits.
Fadi is managed by her twin sister, Kadi. "There's no Fadi without Kadi; she is like my shadow," Fadi says. Together, the twins form a dynamic duo. Fadi has a lot in store for us this summer and beyond, with new music and numerous performances on the horizon. We can't wait to see the amazing feats Fadi will achieve.
